Introduction

As all Meddlers do, Wingman started his journey in a place called Meddle-Earth. He did not begin as Wingman, but as a nameless and featureless blob. In this otherworldly realm, there is a single planet in an infinite void known as Mother, an ordinary blob itself, but of endless size. Wingman emerged from Mother, liberating a ball of goo from the rest of the mass.

Gray and bouncy, all the Meddlers in Meddle-Earth hop around the planet aimlessly until something catches their attention. The film between their realm and the Duperverse is thin, allowing Meddlers to see right through. When one fixates on a certain feature, it begins to transform, becoming what it sees.

Wingman bounced for a very, very long time before seeing something that grabbed his attention. He watched a movie through the realm-film where a dragon was destroying a city. His eye opened wide and he bounced along, following the fluid veil so he didn’t lose what he was looking at. His color started to change into the same purple of the dragon, his sides started to stretch out and fold.

Suddenly, POP, Wingman has wings. He flapped hard and rose from the surface of Mother, He knew what was coming next.

Mother did not like when her babies became individuals. Any time they changed into anything else, she would push them through the veil, forcing them into the Duperverse, though some left willingly. She had two arms that spanned the entire planet. With long, skinny fingers, she grasped the air for Wingman.

Wingman didn’t have any desire to leave, Meddle-Earth, however. He dodged the hands and flew around the planet, using his wings sloppily as he tried to evade. Other Meddlers were grabbed and expelled in his place as he maneuvered through a sea of gray blobs.

For many millions of years, Wingman was able to avoid apprehension. Mother grew frustrated after so long and decided to finish the chase. By this point, Wingman was a master of flight. His time trying to stay in Meddle-Earth served as excellent practice. Mother accepted that she couldn’t catch him, so she went another route. She expanded her entire surface, pressing all the loose blobs against the veil surrounding Meddle-Earth.

Countless Meddlers were pressed into the film and pushed through. They plopped through and onto the floor around the entire world. Then, they began to transform into whatever was nearby. Wingman flew above, knowing that it would be his responsibility to collect them all and give them adorable names and protect the universe from any adverse effects of the Meddler invasion afterwards.
